What it is. A nine-digit number marketed as a "legal" stand-in for your Social Security number to start a "fresh" credit file.
Why it's risky. Using a CPN in place of your SSN on a credit application is federal fraud — it usually means using a stolen SSN (often a child's) or lying to lenders. The consequences include denied loans, closed accounts, and criminal exposure. No legitimate program uses them.
What to do instead. There is no legal version of this. Rebuild your real file — that's the work FundFoundr does with you.
